Lauren Hopkins Honored with Seed of Service Award
On May 4, the Meeker County Farm Bureau had the honor of presenting the first 2025 Seed of Service Award to Lauren Hopkins, a graduating senior from the Dassel-Cokato FFA Chapter, during their annual FFA awards ceremony. The award was presented by Meeker County Farm Bureau board member Steve Schmitt.
The Seed of Service Award recognizes FFA members who lead through consistent, quiet action, serving behind the scenes, supporting their chapters, and strengthening their communities without seeking recognition. Lauren’s thoughtful leadership and commitment made her a standout recipient.
“Receiving this award means that the service I do and leadership I show is seen even though I am not the loudest and most outgoing person,” Lauren shared. “It also means that the work you do is seen and valued.”
Lauren has been a driving force in her chapter, mentoring peers, volunteering in the community, and showing up to help whenever and wherever she’s needed. Her behind-the-scenes contributions have made a lasting impact on those around her.
She credits much of her leadership journey to the support and encouragement of her FFA advisor, Ms. Nelson.
“She pushed me to do more in FFA,” Lauren said. “My 9th grade year, she brought me to National Convention before I had even participated in anything else. That gave me a glimpse of what I could achieve.”
Lauren plans to attend Alexandria Technical and Community College to study Communication Design, and she intends to use her skills and FFA experience to make a difference in the agricultural industry. Her long-term goal is to make a positive impact in her community and through her career.
The Seed of Service Award includes a $250 cash award and a certificate featuring a seedling, symbolizing the lasting impact of service that takes root and continues to grow.
“I serve others to make a positive impact in my community and state,” Lauren said. “It allows me to meet more people, understand their goals, and help improve situations that affect everyone.”
Congratulations to Lauren Hopkins, and thank you for showing us that leadership doesn’t always need to be loud—it just needs to be consistent, meaningful, and rooted in service.
